PRIZES WORTH Rs. 30,000 TO BE WON!!

Introduction

The main aim of crash is to test the suspension mechanism of the participants’ vehicles.
The suspension mechanism will be checked by placing a cup of water of specified dimensions and checking the amount of water retained in the cup after the vehicle has completed a particular round.

Problem Specification

Participants are required to design  and bulit movable bot which can with stand jerks and retain the maximum amount of water at the end

Event Format

The event will consist of two rounds, the first round will be eliminations and the final round will be in the form of knockouts where the top eight teams will compete for the top spots. The teams will crash into the opponent’s vehicle and the team whose vehicle would retain the most amount of water would qualify for the next round

Bot specifications

  • The machine should fit in a box of 250mm x 250mm x 250mm at any moment of time during the course of run.
  • The teams will be penalized on exceeding any one of the above dimensions.
  • Teams having dimensions > 350mm on any side will be disqualified.

Cup Specifications

  • The cup will be provided to the participants its dimensions are as follows:
  • Diameter on the open side: 6.5cm.
  • Diameter on the closed side: 4.5cm
  • Height of the cup: 8cm.
  • The cup is made of flexible plastic material.
  • The participants cannot support the beyond 1/2 the height of the cup. If the cup is supported beyond this height the team will be disqualified.
  • The closed side of the cup must touch the top surface of the vehicle.

Arena specifications

Round1

The arena will be 50 cm wide throughout its length. The average speed will be measured immediately after the starting line to a distance of 50cm from it. After 70cm there will be an incline sloping downwards at an angle of 30 degrees with the horizontal and at a height of 45cm. At a distance of about 20cm from the incline there will be two speed breakers at a distance of 15cm from each other. The speed breakers will be in the form of half cylinders of radius 1cm. At a distance of 50cm from there will be vertical wall.

Round 2

The two teams will begin at the opposite end of a horizontal platform with 2 speed breakers at a distance of 30cm from each end and 10cm apart. The width of the platform will be 50cm.The platform is 2m long.

Rules

General rules

  • The contestants should not any point during the competition damage the arena or they will be disqualified.
  • The given cup of water should touch the top surface of the vehicle.
  • External powered propulsion systems are allowed.
  • The participants will be allowed to handle their vehicles only at the start of their attempt.
  • Continual control on the vehicle is not allowed.
  • The event managers withhold the right to disqualify any team whose propulsion mechanism they deem to be dangerous.
  • The teams will not be allowed to change their propulsion mechanism between rounds.

Round 1(Eliminations)

  • The participants will get two attempts and their best score will be taken.
  • The participants’ vehicle has to attain a speed of 5cm/s before it passes over the obstacle otherwise the score will not be counted.
  • The 5cm/s speed limit will be the average speed being measured. (This will be done by measuring the time taken by the vehicle to traverse a distance of 50cm at the start of the track.)

Round 2 (Knockouts)

  • Initially the two team’s vehicles will be placed such that they collide head on if they traverse in a straight line.
  • Unless the two teams’ vehicles interfere their score will not be evaluated.

  • If both the teams’ vehicles are not capable to compete the team with a higher score in the first round would go through

Judging criterion

  • In the eliminations the teams will be judged on the amount of water retained in the cup (w2) as well as the average speed (w1) attained before passing over the obstacles in the above mentioned way.
  • Score in round 1 will be calculated as follows: Score=w1*w2
  • In the knockouts the teams will be judged solely on the basis of the amount of water retained in the cup.

No. of participants:
