Introduction

It has been said from ages that time and tide wait for none. Today, one who cannot manage time and money in a proper fashion ends up in a confused state. Therefore optimizing resources of time and money by the best means available, and managing them, has become an essential part of our daily lives.

Quark 2010 brings you Elec-Trade, the ultimate challenge to prove your electronic skills on the bread board; the one opportunity to optimize your performance in the stipulated time and at the same time increase your virtual cash to become the richest and most successful Electronic Business man of Quark 2010. 

Elec-Trade is a bread-board based event. It focuses on concepts in both analog and digital circuits, and also at the optimization skills of the participants as they aim to improve their virtual bank balance by acing the events.

Event Specifications

The event has 3 rounds:

Round 1

  • The first round is a written test. This will be a 30 min test comprising of questions from basic circuit theory, digital and analog electronics. The paper will be fairly long with specific amount of monetary value attached with each question.
  • The participants have to optimize their time and attempt for the maximum earning. The first 16  teams to finish go to the next round.
  • The evaluation will be based on the scores, and the order of submission will be used as a basis for resolving a tie.
  • The teams that make it to the next round are awarded a basic virtual amount. In addition to this the teams get 80% of their scores added to their virtual accounts.

Round 2

  • The 16 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 4 teams each. This division is completely random. 
  • Each team has to buy the components required from the balance they have earned. Each group of 4 teams will be given 2 CRO’s and Function Generators. Each time they use the CRO or the Function Generators, they will have to pay rent for it charged at per min cost and a maximum of 8 minutes allowed.
  • Multi meters will also be available on rent.
  • The teams will be given 2 tasks, one analog and one digital. The teams are at complete liberty to start any of the projects first.
  • The teams will be given 5 minutes to decide upon which chips they want and they need to buy the chips from the chip bank in the first 15 minutes after they see the questions. The cost of the chips doubles after the first 15 minute period.
  • Datasheets of all IC’s will be given along with the ICs.
  • All groups will have different set of questions. It will be made sure that the difficulty level for all the groups is the same. Each of the two questions given to the teams has prize money attached to it. The teams earn the prize money upon successful completion of the question.
  • In case of partial completion of a question, the teams can get a maximum of 50% of the value subject to evaluation by the event managers. The teams are also subject to lose up to 20% of the prize money of that question if they cannot come up with a proper solution and wish to jump to the next question.

Round 3

  • Each team will have its own CRO and Function Generator for this generator. The teams have a choice whether to rent the CRO on a per minute basis for a maximum of 10 minutes, after which they will have to wait for at least 5 minutes to re-rent the CRO or buy the CRO for an hour.
  • The teams will be given 2 common questions. The rules are the same as in the previous round. There is a 2 hour time limit for this event too.
  • If a team finishes both the problems successfully, then they can opt for a third problem to increase their chances of winning. At the end of this 2 hour period the top 3 teams with the highest amount of virtual money in their accounts will be declared winners.

Team Specifications

Each team can comprise of minimum 1 member and maximum 3 members.

Certification Policy

  • The top 3 teams will be awarded Certificate of Excellence.
  • The teams ranked 4-8 will be awarded a Certificate of Merit.
  • The teams ranked 9-16 (8 teams) will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.
