School Bag

The “School Bag” is a mixed bag of events designed for the participation of students of Secondary (8-10 classes) and Higher Secondary Schools. The events will be held on 4th February 2010. There is also an event for underprivileged children on 5th February 2010. Spread over two days, it is a mixed bag of events ranging from education to arts and fun.

Please NOTE - REPORTING time on DAY 1 is 9:00am at BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus.

School Bag General Quiz:

This is one of the age old tests of grey cells, our way to find out which school reigns supreme in the state of Goa.

Rules:

  • This is a quiz event which will test the student’s knowledge in science, scientific aptitude, general knowledge, logical reasoning and analytic skills.

  • The Quiz will be conducted under two categories. One category consists of students of 8th, 9th and 10th standards. The second category is for 11th and 12th students.

  • Each school can send a maximum of one team per category. Each team should consist of two students.

  • Team in the first category can be a mix of 8th, 9th and 10th students. The second category may have students from both 11th and 12th standards.

  • A preliminary written round will be held following which selected teams will qualify to the next round.

  • Elimination of more teams will take place at each subsequent level.

Open Showcase:

Students will get an opportunity to view various well designed and innovative models/projects (working and/or nonworking) in different fields of Science and Engineering. 
 

Extempore:

Extempore is an on the spot speech giving event. This is a competition which will test the student's ability to think quickly and make a good speech. The student’s knowledge about things around them and their observational skills coupled with the ability to express them in words will come to the fore.

Rules:

  1. This is an individual event and each school can send a maximum of two students.

  2. The topic will be given on the spot.

  3. The speech should not exceed the specified time limit.

Poster Competition:

Poster making is an art that captures the ability to present ideas and innovation on a single sheet of paper. The students get a chance to highlight existing issues of relevance or to present their own views and suggestions on problems and scientific development. 
 
Rules:

  1. Students are required to present a poster on any of the topics given to them.

  2. The topics will be given 10 days in advance. The students can visit the site for the same.

  3. Posters can be made on standard sized charts.

  4. Each school can send a maximum of two posters.

  5. Posters can be submitted on the day of the event.

  6. Topics :

    1.  Green Technology
    2.  Technical Innovation
    3.  Life without Technology

Lecture/Workshop:

What is technology if you don’t have fun while you learn? There will be a session in which noted persons in their fields will try to inspire young minds and generate interest in some special aspects of technology and science. Each school will be allowed to get up to 10 students including those participating in the above events for the same.

DAY - 2

Time to make someone smile! Events will be held with underprivileged children of nearby areas, teaching them small and beautiful things, rewarding their talents and the best part is, every kid will walk home with goodies and... A smile.

Prizes

Gift hampers and goodies worth thousands to be won! Along with this the Winners will be awarded Certificate of Excellence, students who qualify for the final round will be awarded a Certificate of Merit and other participants will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.  

In case of any conflict, the decision of the Event Managers will be final and binding.
