Sudoku is often described as the Rubik’s cube of 21st century. The specialty of a Sudoku puzzle is that completion rules are simple yet the reasoning required for completion can be very difficult. Kakuro is considered as the big brother of Sudoku and requires same amount of intuitive logic as Sudoku. Quark ’10 provides you with a platform to test your Sudoku and Kakuro solving skills by competing with the best minds across the nation.

Problem Statement

To solve SUDOKU and KAKURO puzzles [this includes Sudoku variations like diagonal, even-odd, irregular, sum Sudoku, cubic Sudoku] correctly. Speed and accuracy are paramount here.

Event Specifications

Sudoku is a logic based number puzzle of 9x9 grid with certain numbers filled in such that each row, column and 3x3 region contains the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 exactly once.

Kakuro is a kind of logic puzzle that is often referred to as a mathematical transliteration of the crossword. The object of the puzzle is to insert a digit from 1 to 9 inclusive such that the sum of the numbers in each entry matches the clue associated with it and that no digit is duplicated in any entry.

The event will be held over two days and will consist of three rounds. The duration of each round is two hours.

Round 1

In this round majority of the puzzles are of the easy and medium type. Around 75 participants will proceed to the second round.

Round 2

The level of difficulty increases in this round.  More variations of Sudoku and Kakuro are given. Around 25 participants will move on to the next round.

Round 3

The complexity of the puzzles is highest for this round. The top three participants will be declared winners.

Wild Card Entry

Every week is an opportunity to win. Seize it.

A special online round will be held every week. Each week’s puzzle will be put up on the Su|Do|Ku|Ro section of website. Ten winners at the end will advance directly to round-2.

Judging Criteria

  • In each round, certain number of points will be allocated to each question depending on its level of difficulty. At the end of each round, participants will be judged based on their score in that particular round.
  • In case of a tie, the participant who has solved the puzzles in less time will be given preference.
  • Every round is independent. Points will not be carried over from one round to another.

Certification Policy

  • Top 3 participants in the final round will be given prizes along with a Certificate of Excellence.
  • 4th – 10th place participants will be given a Merit Certificate.
  • All the participants who entered Round 2 will be given Participation Certificates.
